This article should explain why my Blog appears to be faulty in Internet Explorer - on the contrary, it is IE with the faults...

Luckily, looking at my Server's statistics, over 80% of you use Firefox when browsing my Blog. Just under 12% of you use Internet Explorer. So, why is Microsoft's browser a bad choice? Let's compare the following two screenshots:

Internet Explorer: ie

Firefox: ff

Notice anything odd there? Yes, there is a duplicate bar on the Internet Explorer screenshot. This may look un-professional or school-boy-error-like, but it is the best I (a Web Designer) could come up with to rectify a more serious problem.

Originally, when I finished version 1.2 of my WordPress theme for this blog, I spotted a big rendering problem when I tested it in Internet Explorer. Simply put, the sidebar (which contains all the links) appeared below all of the content. Not good. Especially when you consider that some users may not even scroll down far enough to see it.

So I spent a further hour or so with the code, trying to get IE to render properly. Eventually I narrowed down the problem to these lines of code:

code

Internet Explorer decided that the sidebar was too wide and so was putting it at the bottom of the content. I changed the code once more, which resulted in the screenshots as originally posted:

ie

Luckily, this blog still displays correctly in Firefox, but those using Internet Explorer will still be faced with duplicate bars. Sorry, but I'm not spending any more hours trying to fix someone elses problem. There is nothing wrong with my code, as the CSS validates:

And also the XHTML validates too:

xhtml

To conclude - if you are using Internet Explorer, expect some slickhouse webpages to display incorrectly. This is not due to poor coding on my behalf, but poor coding on Microsoft's behalf. If you're really bothered then you can either switch to Firefox, or write to Bill himself and ask that he conforms to the Web Standards that other browsers adhere to.
