Has anyone finished their Christmas shopping yet? Has anyone even started it? I've just begun and already feel like I've spent 8 hours wondering around shops, looking for things - and I've been sat shopping online the whole time!

I'm terrible when it comes to choosing things to get people as presents, and even with a small budget of £10 or so a person, I'm finding it impossible. Maybe I could just hand out fivers and tenners in a hand-made card? That should do the trick.

Go to pound land, then you can get 10 quality gifts for £10. Dont tell nobody though and they will never know the difference.

I like your thinking Byron.

On a completely unrelated note - if you think you're good at Photoshop Adamskii, your skills are noobish compared to this MS Paint God.

Matt

That guy has an edge.... he can draw reeeeal good. I was about to throw away my tablet... i changed my mind, im inspired now.

Any idea what he records that with. just curious?

Fraps? Media Player Encoder? I think Quicktime and Flash have a function to record screen activity too...

Matt

I used Media Player Encoder a few years back to record a short video on how to use the PUN website: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

Matt

thats what i was thinking of

Ok I have a question aboot Vista. As Matt pointed out to me you can buy Windows XP Pro for £90 and you get a free copy of vista. I think this is good value as vista is gunna be around £200, but i would be gutted to pay 90 if you can get good copied versions that bypass the validation things. What to do? Will we have to get propper versions and pay the price?

LordByron

What version of Vista do you get for free, there are like 5 versions on the thing. I think the lowest basic version is a piece of shite. I hope I can upgrade for cheap tho i wont want vista home edition i dont think.

As far as pirate versions i have no doubt they will be around but i think the problem will be updating these pirate versions with all that jizzy service packs. Maybe corporate versions will be available again :)

btw upgrade you computer then worry about vista after i reckon.

Microsoft realised what people were doing with the corporate versions, so they're changing the licensing for them apparently.

As for the versions, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/default.mspx and you'll no doubt see that the Ultimate edition is pretty much all you'll want. The home edition doesn't fully support all of DX10's features if I'm correct. Can't be bothered to find the page on the net where I read that, but plump for Ultimate.

Unfortunately the upgrades don't do Ultimate - you can purchase an OEM of XP Home, Pro or MCE and get Basic, Business or Premium. Check out the online stores for exact details, though last time I checked with aria, they weren't 100% sure how the upgrades would work. I guess just the same as the current upgrades, but you'll have to mail-in a voucher to receive your copy - which according to Dell costs between £11-25.

No need to upgrade me computay for Vista. Everything had Vista ready logos on them. I'll possibly go for an 8 series GPU, only when this starts to slow...

Matt

I meant Simon needing the upgrades!

Premium looks good enough for me, whatever happens i dont want the most basic vista because you dont get the included OS games and i heard the new edition to that is chess! i cant wait to play alot of chess.

I read an article this morning, before heading off to work, in PC Pro, saying that many manufacturers were complaining about Vista Basic. Basically (pun!) it's so cut-down that many consumers wont even touch it and Microsoft itself is trying to hide it from them.

Matt

fook sake, its been the 1 time of the year I actually wanted a job and there is nothing in barnstaples. grrr, i am very poor at the mo. I got a galaxies email the other day about the new update.... with all this free time i have i might as well pla.......y... I JOKE!

My problem is that i can buy this XP pro and get a voucher where you send off and get Vista Buisness Free (but you have to pay for postage). This offer may go after its out or might not, but it will save me atleast £100 in the future as Windows OS never seem to reduce in price.
