It's been a long time...

But I'm back (yet again). This time for good it seems - as my server has sorted itself out now and no core files are appearing anymore, in this blog and Adamskii's.

So, expect many more posts from me over the next few days, as I bring you up to speed with what I'm up to. A quick taster:

* Today I went to Hemswell Market again, though as it was a bank holiday, it was very quiet with a few stalls. However, we did find a small computer shop amongst the many buildings there, which was like an aladdin's cave for us geeks. After 30 minutes or so of browsing, I picked up 4 replacement creative soundworks speakers, along with many metres of speaker cable. This should allow me to route the various cables around my room a bit better.

* My parents came up for the weekend. Apart from the meals out, we installed a mains power supply and network socket in the attic. Over the next few weeks I'll be re-doing the loft insulation and adding some boards to the rafters. Then I'll migrate my black server up into the attic, to leave it on 24/7. 1.4tb of hidden network storage. Expect a project log soon with more information.

* My new PC is coming along a treat. I've started on the modification of the case and you can read the full worklog here. I've also ordered the monitor I'll be using for it - the Acer Ferrari 19" (20" review here). I'm almost definately going AM2, as there is no point in buying a socket 939 rig now, as it will soon be out of date. I know AM2 hasn't received great press, but it's in its infancy. Most likely an Athlon 64 X2 4000, as it was 2 x 1mb L2 Cache and the core is named Windsor. Perfect.

* I'm halfway through installing our new interactive whiteboard at work. I'm wondering if Counter-Strike would work on it, though it's 66" in size.

Anyway, hopefully this version of my blog will be nice and stable, allowing me to carry on blogging and you lot to carry on reading.

Before i forget, whats with these modern keyboards having fooked up enter buttons? Im after buying a new one after tea spillage = broke arrow keys. On the pictures of the keyboards the enter keys are little pissy things, ive used my dads one which is the same and i absolutely hate it. I cant be arsed to go look what are they keys around it, I just wondered if that key configuration had a particular name u knew about? Then i could look for one with wasnt pissy.

There's no specific name for the smaller configuration. A lot of keyboards are going laptop style, which is fine and many gamers believe it makes for quicker key-strokes, but I'm with you on sticking to the original 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' kinda keyboard.

I see what you mean about the small Enter keys, they're the same sorta size as the backspace keys. I'd shop around, look at the key layouts and try to find one with the normal sized Enter key. We've got some Genius Black Keyboards (KB-06X) that are pretty decent, with the full size Enter keys. No fancy Media buttons either. Though they have the power/standby/reset keys just above the 4 cursor keys, so would have to be ripped off straight away with a screwdriver - remember me hitting shutdown whilst PvP'ing in Galaxies? Ha!

And yes, I'm back in business. I swear it was my host's fault, as the problem seems to have automatically sorted itself out over the weekend. It seemed my php was messing around, as not only did it throw up loadsa core files, but when I logged into WordPress, the admin dashboard wouldn't appear fully. Your blog was throwing up the core files too, but I could delete them easily enough every other day. Mine clogged up within an hour. But it's all good...

Matt

Hmm i was worried you'd say that.... I dont like the new layout because ive got clumsy fingers and i like to smack that enter key real good. Ok im going to look about, ill either go cheapo or go the whole hog and get the real deal, not much of a rush because i can use the arrow keys on the numpad.

Yeah any power buttons would have to go for sure if i stabbed that bad boy it would prob break my hard drives, thats what usually happens. haha PvP power down!
