This morning, I was almost certain that the following would be the specs of my new rig (that I'm currently putting together):

* AMD Athlon64 3800 X2

* 2gb DDR 3200 (2 x 1gb)

* Asus A8N SLi SE

* 7800gt

* Tagan 480w

However, this evening I read this article along with this one.

For those that can't be bothered to read, or indeed those that cannot read altogether, here is a summary:

For £79, you can purchase a new Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core. This can be overclocked to 4.1Ghz without too much hassle and will beat the top Intel Extreme Edition and AMD FX-60 chips into oblivion.

Now I'm stuck as to whether I purchase a dual core AMD for £200, or this for £79...

Any help?

EDIT: Here's the £79 chip!

This chip is mentioned in the Custom PC mag for this month, forgot all about it. I think they clock it to something like 3.6ghz and say u cant get anything like this for the price. 4.1 tho? crazy... certainly seems like the perfect purchase if u wanna save some cash. Ive still yet to read the article, ill get on that later. been real busy today, if you can believe that. 4 hours just passed and i missed them all.

I'm still undecided... going to leave the choice till the last minute and decide what gets me the best kit for the mulaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

My modded case is coming along slowly. I've pretty much got all of the electronics ready (fans, controllers, cabling, switches). Spent an hour or so last night removing the lower 3 1/2" drive cages. I've gutted the case so that the finished mod will only contain what's needed, no excess metal or wiring...
