Perhaps I'm a little late writing this... especially as the game in question has already received an expansion and numerous add-ons.

But two days ago I finally purchased Oblivion, for a mere £19.99 from PC World - only to find it at almost half that online, once I returned home. Adamskii tried sending us a copy for 'testing' but alas, the copy wouldn't read in any drive.

I have to admit, I see what most of the fuss was about - it's an engrossing game. I've played it for a grand total of 2 hours now, spread over two evenings. Hopeless I know, but I have spent almost double that messing around with setting up the controls and looking at all the grass and stuff.

Graphics wise, I was pleased to see my computay runs it easily at the highest settings @ 1280x1024. HDR looks good too. Though they visuals aren't amazing, just nice. I'd say Half-Life 2 still looks the prettiest of all games my eyes have seen.

I've killed enough rats to feed me for a fortnight, so now I'm onto fishys in the lake...

Give the game 10 hours and it should suck you in. When I did most of the main quest missions I was fairly high skill after faffing about for aaages, the benefit of this was I recieved fairly high loot (weapons etc). The downside tho was some of the quests were either piss easy or crazily hard. I guess do whatever you want anyways seems that whoever plays the game has a much different experience. Just please dont tell me your character is a female lolz.

Any questions I think I should be able to answer, i had a look and Ive spent over 200 hours on it hahaha oh man.

Oh finally, if you want the addons just Holla

Adamskii

What addons have you used?

My character started out as an Imperial Scout, but I changed him to an Imperial Knight at the end of the sewers. He is male (obviously) - the females look like men but with paler skin... he has grey hair and looks like David Coulthard with a big chin. I originally went for the Akof look, with a massive chin and alien eyes, but decided against it in the end.

I'm literally only at the top of that huge hill as you step out of the sewers. I went swimming for a bit and found some pearls. The thing I like is I've got the controls setup almost identical to how Galaxies was, so everything can be done from a 5-button mouse.

200 hours? That's crazy talk!

I had a Redguard battlemage or something which is the black dude and I gave him a green beard. He looked same as my dude I had in Morrowind. The Women are dogs in this game yes. 200 hours was bad, the main quest only takes about 20 hours but I got carried away pissing about paralysing my horse at the top of mountains and watching it roll all the way down. Its funny.

I've spent the past 4 hours or so trying to find ways to con the game out of money. I've found that if you steal an item, then drop it, then pick it up - it'll lose it's stolen status. Also, I'm currently in a city with a Fighter and Mage guild in, and I've joined both. I've been looting the stupid people right under their noses and selling all the items at the local merchants. They don't complain cos I'm one of their guild people.

This game is fun, but a little addictive - I've gotta sleep for work tomorrow.

I guess that dropping items bug was patched because it wont work for me. If you like stealing join the thieves guild.

Adamskii

I've been trying to work out where the thieves guild is... I read somewhere that you can become permanently invisible in the game too, and steal as much as you like.

That dropping items bug doesn't work, I was wrong. I don't know how I got it to work though, but I think I picked up an item and it became stolen, then lost the stolen status once dropped.

Update on my oblivion adventures...

I'm still only level 3 (I think), but I've probably lost 15 hours to the game now. My gold is up to around 4,500 - only 500 off of purchasing a house. Apparently there's one available from a quest in Anvil - so I'll be making a trip there tonight.

I've mostly been selling all the goods from within the guild halls - I've wiped out 3 towns now, allowing me to purchase some nice things and try to make the 5k I need. Once I have a house I'll carry on with the main quest... feck, I'm hooked. If only my evenings were longer (6pm-1am aint long enough)

Matt

hahaha its a drug but i like it. You will find the thieves guild main dude when the time is right.... ok he in a ghetto slum outside imperial city (near ships) but thieves wont just meet up in broad daylight would they? Perm Invisibility? Not sure about this. You can put chameleon spells on clothing I guess and maybe be 99% invisible and swag stuff but otherwise I cast invisibility spells but if you touch something you become visible. Maybe you get some item with high chameleon power attached.

Adamskii

Funnily enough thieves guild missions are the only one I haven't finished, so maybe you do get something like that.
