Yay I can geek it here. Erm ok so you might find this helpful. These are links for the 2 most developed sd card things for the ds. These links are compatibility list for games on the DS (torrent-files u can pick roms from). Bare in mind that the M3 has been out longer and so it's wiki page has had more detail put onto it. It all started when I decided I needed to get that brain training or something similar to get my brain ticking. I came across a video on you tube of it running and thought fook! I never considered looking to see if these functions were being developed. I figure If I can turn the ds into an "all in one" I won't be so bored when I have to go somewhere boring.
mmm an app on the cyclo list one lets you play all old skool point and click games by lucasarts, so thats all monkey islands, sam and max games, broken sword... I like these type of games. Im going to do a spunken.

The driving elements seem flawed, but it looks really nice and I managed to make an obese Asian with Churchill jaws and a pimp purple tracksuit.
Oh - and the fact that it uses Havok for the physics is pimp; it's a lot of fun kicking people as they're down, having their floppy rag-doll bodies flopping all over the place...
We get takeaways on a Friday - today was chips n' cheese for me. Only downside is you want a sleep afterwards from being so full.
Pub sounds great - though don't worry about it going to your head, surely they expect you to be pissed.

Yeah I watched same things as you last night, last week show was as good too. At the same time was downloading a ton of Nintendo DS ROMS from this site: http://www.romulation.net/NDS/ You have to sign up but just put in some spare email, after that you can download what u want and speed is decent. Only bad thing is a few annoying popup adverts.

I dont seem to have a laggy sd card either, i bought the one with the cyclods thing on consoleup, wasnt as cheap as u can get but i heard they send japanese made sd cards which is important for an improved access speed. Needless to say I got a Kingston card that WAS japanese so that was awesome. Ive tested it just now with the laggiest game and there didnt seem to be any problems/slowdown.

Is the Vista GUI just a background on the 'headphones' menu? The whole thing looks good, it makes you wonder why they didn't integrate some of those features as standard (like the PSP).
One question - how much was it altogether (incl. DS/SD/Cyclo)?
Ooh, one completely random thing - a site I built that was recently finished by a colleague has gone live. It's probably the most 'out-of-the-ordinary' site that we've produced. The layout was a PITA to get right, but seems to work OK now.

The GUI is mostly just a skin although on the touch screen you can click things as you would a mouse. You CAN customize all of the skins which I might try out. The could have easily integrated some of these features for sure, its a wonder they didn't. What I will do is have a longer try this morning and get some applications tested on it and then do a follow up vid showing whats possible as I was busy watching X-Factor (I know...but I like the first shows with the morons) last night.
Prices were about: £95 for DS, 17.99 for 2gb micro sd card (You can get better deal but I wanted from the same site as i got the cyclo thing) and £34.99 for the actual cyclo DS. You can get a cheaper M3 device that is very similar but I recommend you spend the extra tenner for this device. Really tho, once you've bought all this stuff you wont have to spend another penny on it which i like the idea of.

I'll post up the new vid sometime tonight. On a side note I can now explain why the cyclods is so much preferred over other options. When you run homebrew applications they all require you patch the application with a didl file which programmers use to create their apps. FOr each app you want to use you must do this, it seems like a faff.
With the cyclods it is already done for you (assuming its part of the firmware) as the team behind it add this application functionality in for you. Each new firmware adds new features and updates are frequent. I tried the new worms2 rom yesterday and was the 1st DS game to not run, I looked today on the forum and a beta firmware was released which now supports this game. pretty good!

yeah basically anything other card devices do this does (or will do when the firmware is updated). Thats because its coded with that didl thing i mentioned which is like a ds protocol or something. The incompatibility comes when the coder only tests it on whatever device they have. I put that web thing on the new vid. Ive not been arsed to put the settings in for it tho as cant remember my IP and WEP code. I think that web browser brings up some really basic pages tho or something. Not tried anything online for this reason, I been too busy downgrading music files for old skool point and click games.

hmm on this cyclods thing for the msn prog it wants me to put in my IP, Gateway and subnet. where do I find out what to put in? I can find my network ok but it doesnt seem to offer the option to put the encryption in... Hmm dunno why i on here asking I spose i should go on the programs website.

To find your IP on a standard Windows PC, you'd go Start > Run > 'cmd' and type in 'ipconfig' at the command prompt. That will then show you your IP address (usually 192.168.0.x); subnet (usually 255.255.255.0) and gateway (usually 192.168.0.1).
Are you needing an IP of a PC to connect to, or the IP of the DS itself?

Nah I looked for that already, nothing about settings in the ds menu. Not that I've located anyway. On another note I tried Mario Kart online which does ask for your wep key.... it was trying to connect but then said something like couldnt access DNDS I think. I've had similar problems with this in the past when trying to connect to xbox live through my pc connection

Sounds like it's not finding your router then (gateway). Either you've set the IP for it incorrectly (the gateway) or your router isn't setup to 'dish out' IPs, well automatically assign them (DHCP).
That Skyline is mental, not sure of the 0-60MPH, but it's running insane horsepower and is filmed somewhere in the middle-east.

Heard a good geek story today about RPGIV / AS/400 server reliability. Some company was using a IBM RPG server (the language Im learning) for their company. One day they realised they had no idea where it was in the building. Eventually they tracked it down... it had been sealed into a wall, somehow it was plastered over by some dumb builder and was in this non ventilated space for about 5 years! In this time it never once needed a reboot or anything. Lol pretty funny it thought. Now im going to go jerk off to something else as geeky. Maybe some Beef jerky.

Tonight I decided to format my Vista PC as the network adapters were playing up and the hard-drive was being accessed every other second. I couldn't find a cause to either problem, so decided to re-install Ultimate 64-bit. Turns out I made the right decision, as it's taken less than an hour to get back to a state similar to before - and no fuss with re-activating even though it's an OEM edition.

WAYYYOOO I was looking on websites to find a good cheap card to replace this one and was getting pissed off with delivery costs that don't make any sense. Anyway I was cheesed off so thought ok I last try with this duff card, and i got the micro sd card put in the sdcard adapter i got with it instead of using the usb one and plugging into pooter; I placed it in my camera. As normal the camera said the disc got nothing on it, so I formatted the card through the camera menu and then took a photo... hang on a sec the pic went somewhere.... whip out my cable and look at it on my pooter and there it is fooking well working!! WEird as hell so Ive formatted it now and its working on my ds again haha how mad is that?! Anyway Im chuffed coz im v poor at the mo till i get paid. BO
The moral of the story is a cheap Taiwanese camera is better then my computer. Dun.

On the plus side! House prices will start to stumble. There have been many signs of a house price stutter and now more then ever. Firstly the government introduced home buyer survey packs for houses with 3 bedrooms or more (the way to avoid this is to advertise your house with a study and 2 bedrooms) costing £400+ so people tried to get thier homes on the market resulting in a flood of choice; so hence people have the option to shop around. Secondly government intrest rate rises. Thirdly the American house market bust and the banks over here had shares in the banks lending people money, so to recoup the loses UK banks are hiking up the intrest rates. I predict a slump in 2008. Bad time to buy at the mo but great time to save!

Picked it up at ASDA in the end - £39.71. I popped into Comet on the way there though, where it was the RRP! It's the first time in ages that I've seen a game for the full £49.99 asking price.
My only worry is that the VGA connection doesn't support 60Hz - I seem to remember the Hitman demo saying it was only running at 50Hz. Obviously the XBOX 360 isn't very clever, as my LCD wont support less than 60Hz - and ran at 75Hz when used on a PC.
Going to pop it in after I've eaten me Pizza - I'll let you know if it runs. If you don't hear from me any time soon, I'm playing Halo 3.

Wow! I wish the game was slower and boring - then I could spend time staring at all the amazing visual delights on display - such as the water, bump mapping on the textures and the insane lighting! I liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike!
Yah is fun and considering it is mainly focussed on multiplayer as well, means it will last a long time. BTW The power hammer weapon is the best thing. You need to play on co-op its a laugh, ill try to get a game going when I get time instead of messing about on deathmatches. I think the graphics could have looked better in area's but Id sacrifice that for the performance gains any day, besides they do look great don't get me wrong. The only thing i wish it had a bit more of is AA but ive found sometimes thats just to do with my display setup. The AI is top notch. As you say tho, its very hectic = mucho fun!

I have to disagree about Anti-Aliasing, I reckon your display setup is off or something, as the game looks pixel perfect to me. On extreme close-up I can't spot any jaggies.
Very good AI - I especially like the little minions who talk to each other - just now one was crying as I killed his friend.
I finally found the wonders of the power-hammer where you are standing behind a barricade versus a dozen or so enemies. That section took me literally, 10 retries. It wasn't until the 10th time that I realised there were loads of weapons dotted around the room - I kept running out of ammo and restarting! Ah well.
I reckon most torrent seeders are based in Sweden, due to their 100MB broadband and all that...

Hmmm, well to Plymouth is 299 miles according to Google maps. If I'm lucky, I get 250 miles to a tank, but driving like I normally do, it's closer to 200. So let's call it 300 miles, which is 600 there and back, which would be 3 tank fulls - which would be £150, lol. I'd go halves, but it's probably cheaper for all of us to get the train down to see you, then return to Lincoln and travel back with you, then back again.

I like the menu, it's a lot easier to use than 3 - everything is in a logical place. The lap times are coo-el, as they show your friends best laps once you complete a race.

I'm yet to try the multiplayer in Halo3! I had another go at the PGR4 demo and beat your laptime by a huge 0.2 seconds, woo woo! Though I'm not consistent enough in the snow to better it.
I thought there was rain, but looking at the two weather options - it's either Winter Sunset or Heavy Snow. I like the fact that they've used Prodigy for the theme/menu music.
I almost completely forgot - download the UT3 demo. And also the Call of Duty 4 demo! These last few weeks have been mental for new game releases!

Yeha ive got the Unreal 3 demo been playing for a few days, reallly nice, i love unreal tournament games, this one is really fast paced. The old ones were as well but this one is more so. Call of duty 4... ive not downloaded its too biggy for the weak connection bandwidth here, but I might reconsider. I traded in skate for pgr 4 as well so I wont be on the demo to destroy your lap time! lol Ill have to do it ingame... Im starting to prefer the motorbikes as well funnily enough even if they do handle like a bitch, problem is i doubt they are gonna work with my steering wheel too well which im about to try out. Cool if they do tho. That prodigy song is bo I agree, I can imagine (headphones!) it would really give a good speaker setup a workout, a long version of it continously loops on all the menu screens, its top; never tire of it. Also the engine sound is a step up from the last game, the sounds are really meaty, might not be realistic but what do I care as it sounds kickass, plus what do i know, ive never sat in a 200k car.

PGR4 sounds great on me Z5500's - I usually spend the first lap switching between the different views to hear the sound of the car, as the pitch changes and it chooses from the 5 speakers where to place the sound. I haven't tried the speakers on much more than 25% volume though - whereas they're renowned for the high volume that they go up to. You can feel the rumble of the engine and it is bo.
I found CoD4 downloaded in under an hour, hitting 400KB/s at times. But UT3 took 5 hours initially and stopped at 96% the first time. I left it downloading overnight on my server and it appears to have completed successfully this time.
Hmmm, I don't know what the cap is on Virgin, but I've filled up a 60GB download partition overnight... grabbing The Office Season 2 (USA), Prison Break and Heroes.
CoD4 demo is pimp, if a little short. Graphically, it's not pushing any boundaries, as it's multi-platform - but I prefer it to GRAW and the likes on PC.
Not to try UT3 - I've read many comments saying that it's back to the original greatness, unlike the 2k series.
I can't believe the one time i want to get on live to play you it breaks, piece of shit thing. I guess everyone logs on after top gear on a Sunday. It better work later on.

Have you finished downloading it yet? Wondering how it runs on your setup, as I don't think I'll get a change to play it until this evening.
Just finished the demo, was dissapointed at first because you start off at night time... I was thinking oh yeah great way to show off the lighting...anyway the sun came up later and so was ok. It ran pretty good on 1400 x 900 on medium setting, on the cutscenes it was a bit more jerky. There are alot of physic smashing to do, these areas tax the frame rate the most. It kind of feels a shame to run the game on medium tho, i might turn down the resolution so I can turn up other settings, as Ive seen much better looking games on the 360. As far as it plays... I didn't like it... till about halfway through. Then I started to get the grips with the games pace. the suit power runs out very fast so if you don't time things correctly you are dead. Once I got the hand of things I enjoyed it alot more, playing with the AI guys, running rings around them. Some odd things happened during gameplay tho which i cant be bothered to go into now. The demo comes with the Sandbox 2 editor! this IS cool, im going to cock about now and see what mayhem I can come up with. Makes the massive download a whole lot more worthwile.

It sounds like the experience I had with STALKER. When I first installed it, the game wouldn't run at much more than medium settings (even though my PC exceeded the recommended specs). A few patches later and it runs smoothly at max - but the whole game has been tainted, as it didn't look as good initially as it could have done.

It's made using Microsoft Visio. The shapes are all pre-made - Visio allows you to create diagrams/flowcharts etc. We use it at work to map the path of users through websites and also for diagrams of networks - hence me creating one of slickhouse.

I'm annoyed with games, as suddenly there are a dozen or so great ones, such as Orange Box; PGR4; Crysis; CoD4; UT3; Assasin's Creed; Bioshock and Mass Effect - plus the fact that many are available on PC and XBOX 360 - which to choose?
Call of duty is running at 1400 x 900 which is my native monitor res i must be getting 60fps at least tho as it feels very smooth, looks great too. Id say call of duty has the better presentation of the two but at the mo i prefer crysis because its so open ended. Saying that ive spent longer on crysis. It reminds me of boiling point and far cry mixed together, the levels in crysis take me long time to finish and things just got interesting... I was being hunted down in the jungle by 4 doods in similar suits as my dude wears. it was mucho fun. Even tho i can run it and play it ok i still wish i had a beefier graphic card. I hope it doesnt go shit at the end like far cry did. I am feeling the same pains/joys with all these games about too. P.S. id not even noticed i named that pic far cry!

When the first concept was unveiled back in 2003, it took me a while to like the new shape, but it has grown on me since.
I love the shape; recently car redesigns (Subaru's for example) has left me pretty disappointed, but I do like this one. In fact what id like to see is this shape and the old skyline shape so you have the option of either. That would be ideal. Then I could buy both. I like this design tho, its what I imagine a Japanese spaceship to look like. It was saying in the article if you tell a Japanese chappy you love Skylines, they gonna give you a funny look as in Japan Skylines are Nissan's bog standard saloon car.

The XBOX update is coo-el. The DivX stuff isn't much use to me, as I've been using TVersity for 6 months (DivX, XVid the lot) to watch media via the network. But I'm glad they've improved the layout of the blades - much easier to find things and download new content. However, on your XBOX, do the blades move quicker since the update? Flick from far-left to far-right and I swear the animation is quicker and not as smooth.

The new Nvidia 8800gts is out as you have all probably noticed. Personally i dont think its worth paying the extra over the 8800gt for the few extra fps. Also the new 9800 Nvidia's are out next Feb too.

Seems like 8800gt best deal? the ati 3505053, something or other is pretty solid (and cheaper ~£40) and ati usually get a nice bit faster with driver updates.hmm... Its directx10.1 compliant as well unlike the other cards. this is the main thing putting me off, I hate that you cant you antialiasing and HDR with direct x10 and this option is viable in 10.1 along with some nice lighting effect. Maybe its worth waiting till Dx10.1 games are actually made.

I found a weak spot - shoot the Trojan guy between the hip and the balls - he'll go down easily. I like the way he dubbed loud music over the scene, to mask all the clunking of his suit. At least it protects him from throwing knives - a weapon many use in modern warfare. Pity the light from his mobile phone would give him away at night, which means as soon as he takes his helmet off to make a call, the nearest sniper can take him out. Then they've got a free Trojan suit!

Why do I have a typing dyslexia? I type every day, not loads of words but a decent enough amount, so why doesn't my typing speed improve more then it does? Ok, so it's improved a little bit but not that significantly I don't think. My fingers are very clumsy. Maybe I should use the technique you are taught and use all the fingers on my hand. 57 words first try. Then 68 words on the second try. Both were touch-typing though, but I only use 3 of the 5 fingers on each hand when typing. I've never learnt to type properly - just typed lots over the years.
That trailer is good. I think At World's End has some of the best scenes of the trilogy - but also a lot of the worst.

Yus, Linux is the way to go. Use Ubuntu as thats the most user friendly version of Linux. There is a version of linux that boots up in 3 seconds that i recently seen but cant remeber where.

Ubuntu is a great Windows alternative, but boots up even slower. ASUS have an embedded version of Linux on some of their new motherboards, which allows you to use the internet very quickly.
I know their Eee PC boots super quick too, as had a go on one the other week in PC World. I was tempted to buy it, until I realised that I wouldn't have a use for it.
I'm about to put CentOS on one of my older machines as a development web server. It's basically a non-commercial version of Red Hat.
In case any of you (like me) are running Nvidia hardware, but haven't yet purchased Orange Box - you can get the First Slice of Portal pie for free!

Depends how old the computer is. I've run Damn Small Linux on several PCs in the past - including from a USB stick. It has a low footprint of only 50MB. Fast booting solution though I'm not sure about, as all Linux distros I've used have taken as long as (if not longer than) Windows to boot.
So i read about that Eee Pc on bit tech today and think oh yeah thats got my interest, then i read straight away; "Asus will be bringing out a higher res version at some time", so immediately I lose interest again. Grr! Same with nearly everything these days.

The Focus is fun. Lots of torque with it being a diesel and although the turbo isn't as loud and manic as the Skyline's, it's still fast enough.

Went to watch Cloverfield, good fun go check it. I couldn't wait for some of those american chumps to die and luckily I wasn't let down. Also gave me the urge to join the army and shoot big guns at monsters. Word of warning tho dont sit anywhere near the front row, as there is serious wobble cam and your going to find yourself looking around the cinema to calm the eyes if you do. Unfortunately I didnt have a choice and being a film thats been out for couple o week and having the worsed cinema here that you can think of, It was like watching a 200 inch tv in your front room... Fun; but not for that film. bleugh!

erm, i havent just spent a ton of money on a bike. Instead the bike has always been at my home in plymouth and im off to go and get it on weekend. Things are good - we've had the third scan (yet to put pics on the blog), as at the second scan they couldn't see all of the baby's heart - but everything went well third time around.
Pushchair is in its box sitting in the garage and the cot is to be put up. The baby's going to have your old room! Might find some old socks or something when getting it ready?

Dam adverts. As far as trailers go thats gotta be right up there with the best. I HOPE the framerate is somewhat stable - it was a bit off on Dirt but going from the trailer it looks to be running between 60 and 30 fps as opposed to 30 - 20 like Dirt seemed to be so I'm hopeful. I also hope they sort the handling because as fun as Dirt was it's handling was weird/wrong. But prob being the biggest criticism of Dirt review and opinion wise, I should imagine/hope they spent alot of time fixing this.

You may have heard of them already and in 2005 Honda built the first one costing $5 million; but they will become main stream in the US this year costing $50k and availible to rent for $500 a month.
Personally, I dont give a shit about this saving the planet bull crap but it will save on my wallet as no need for crappy oil and stupid taxes.
Honda are even going to sell machines that you can produce your own hydrogen fuel at home.

My subscription runs out at the beginning of June, but will be renewing straight away, especially for GTA IV multiplayer.

I always say this about gta as well, but i eventually tire of it however it prob racks up the most amount of hours by far which is a whoooole lot, and hopefully the multiplayer is as good as I hope. The recent Bit-Tech review of Prologue has said similar to your comment - which makes me feel a lot better that I opted for a 360 instead of waiting for the PS3. I can't see GT5 making a huge impression on the gaming market, especially with Forza and Project Gotham both selling extremely well.
I can see it selling loads cause its the only ps3 racer. They need to sort out the damage physics thing and also its not released for a year so much more time to improve it.

GT4: Prologue was barely any different to the full Gran Turismo 4 - the latter contained a lot more cars and tracks, but essentially the Prologues are a stop-gap. It bides the developer more time to cram in what they originally promised.
In a years time, we'll have the next Project Gotham and Forza, along with a handful of others.
Well they do have to step it up somehow. It was good, but I guess im getting old and needing a faster fix of fun these days and this game wasn't giving it. It was a solid game tho don't get me wrong.

If you know which ports they're leaving open, then you could setup a proxy - but remote desktop would simply give you access to another PC outside of your company's network.
Well, I think it upscales... looks like it did when I ran Lord of ringer through it. It wasn't too far off a blue ray. No idea about the details of the filter, it's not kicking in just yet, when it does I might try virtual browser sites if they are not blocked. Maybe I mean't virtual desktop on the server? So I could browse through the internet on that?

You could using VNC or remote desktop, however they would still require ports to be open on your company's firewall. Basically, all traffic would have to pass through the firewall (unless you can find a way around it), in which case they'll most likely restrict access to only a certain few ports. These open ports would then be filtered, restricting what you can (and cannot) see.
At the moment Im browsing VIA GhostZilla its a really cool discreet browser that opens in whatever app you are running and greys font &/hides all the pictures etc (unless you mouse over them). Its really cool for those moments where there is nothing to do but you don't want it to look like you are doing nothing. Best of all you don't have to install it; its running from my usb stick and doesnt save any files to the computer, only the temp till it closes. If i move my mouse outside the app window area the browser dissapears displaying your work and to get it back you move far left to far right to far left with your cursor. Its really fooking cool, if you have a reason to or are bored, check it out!

I might try it out, purely for novelty reasons - we're allowed to check the web/email during work, but don't find the time for it.

Unfortunately he didn't - I've still got over 50 bottles/cans of beer left over from the BBQ. I do, however, have plenty of pictures of Simon during the latter part of the evening. I would post them here, but people would get the wrong idea...
